Mend– The Breakup App

Spring 2016

Project

IOT phone case and app for visual design class.

Role

Lead Designer

Technology

Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop

Mend is a phone case alcohol detector that checks your alcohol levels and transmits them to an app on your phone. At certain BAC levels the app blocks you from calling or texting your exes, going on social media and emailing until you are sober. Mend was created to be a positive tool for people who have just gone through a breakup and need assistance avoiding their ex on social media or text.

Visual system

Blue-green was chosen as the primary color combination because of the inherent color psychology: Blue often makes people feel calm, peaceful, secure, stable; it's reliable. Green has a calming effect and often represents nature and good health. The Poppins typeface was chosen for its readability on mobile screens due to its high x-height and open counters.

Funtionality

Testing is currently being conducted on transdermal sensing technoloy which can measure how much alcohol is passing through the skin, which can then be translated into BAC levels. The Mend case would use this technology to measure BAC levels. The warning on the phone is very discreet in order to protect people using the app from others knowing how drunk they are.
